Brandon Mason - Producer/Engineer/Mixer | ||

A musician, writer, arranger and programmer in his own right, Brandon possesses an uncanny ability to hear into the music, to hear the impulse that drives the music, and to bring those aspects to the fore in the recording. "Every record inevitably takes on a life of its own and presents a unique set of possibilities," says Brandon. "The trick is to put those possibilities together in a way that faithfully represents the artist and to keep the process flowing naturally, maintaining the space everyone needs to tap into their best performance and get it on tape." Brandon recorded and mixed The Zutons for SonyBMG with producer George Drakoulias at Sunset Sound and The Pass in L.A. Prior, he recorded Miriam Lamen's EMI/UK debut at Electric Lady Studios. Prior, Brandon produced and mixed The Secret Machines upcoming unnamed third release and VHS or BETA's, Bring On The Comets (Astralwerks). Brandon also mixed The Secret Machines' versios of "I Am The Walrus" and "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" featuring Bono on lead vocals for the film Across The Universe. Brandon also recorded and mixed Mooney Suzuki at Sear Sound for the film Tropic Thunder. Previously, Brandon recorde and mixed Don Byron's Do The Boomerang (Blue Note). He also co-produced, recorded and mixed the self-titled debut release from New York singer-songwriter Swati (Bluhammock Music). Brandon recorded The Secret Machines second Warner Bros. release, the critically-acclaimed Ten Silver Drops album in Nashville, Brooklyn, Chicago, Woodstock and Madison, Wisconsin. Additionally, Brandon co-produced, recorded and mixed The Music of Sara P. Smith, which features performances by Martha Wainwright, Ambrosia Parsley (Shivaree) and Ed Pastorini with string arrangements by Jane Scarpantoni (Lou Reed, Patti Scialfa, Lounge Lizards), recorded tracks for Martha Wainwright's eponymous debut album for Zoe/Rounder Records, and remixed (with the Secret Machines) the classic New Order song "Temptation" for the singles compilation for EMI/London. He also produced and engineered the first single, "I Close My Eyes", from Shivaree's third release, Who's Got Trouble? (Zoe/Rounder), and produced, recorded and mixed Maverick for jazz pianist Carli Munoz. Maverick features legend musicians Jack DeJohnette, Eddie Gomez, Don Byron and David Sanchez. Brandon cut his teeth at legendary Bearsville Studios and went on to help build Allaire Studios, where he worked on some of the most successful records of the last decade (Norah Jones, Tim McGraw, Ricky Martin). Brandon is a dynamic producer and engineer; as versatile recording a jazz trio record or orchestral soundtrack as he is with rock, pop or folk. On the short list he's recorded and/or mixed: The Secret Machines, David Bowie, Bono, New Order, Joan Baez, Heather Nova, Boyd Tinsley of The Dave Matthews Band, Donna Lewis, Tony Levin, David Torn, Matt Chamberlain, Gary Peacock, Jack DeJohnette, Garth Hudson, Don Byron, Mercury Rev and Johnnie Johnson. And he's done so alongside some of the best producers in the business: Andy Wallace, Craig Street, T Bone Burnett, Tony Visconti, Gil Norton, Roger Moutenot, Peter Collins, Desmond Child, Steve Lillywhite, Elliott Scheiner, Paul Kolderie and Sean Slade.
