When you talk about multi-talents in the music business, the conversation always turns to Ed Cherney. Raised in Chicago, settled in Los Angeles, Ed Cherney's a four time Grammy-winner but more importantly someone who always brings the human element to any project he's producing, recording or mixing. His unmatched ability to not only bring out the best in artists but tell them what exactly needs to be done to make everything that much better is legendary. With a warm smile and a frank, brilliantly-funny wit, Ed's brought more than one smile to the face of Mick, Keith or Eric.
Over a three decade career working with The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Iggy Pop, John Mayer, Bob Seger, Jackson Browne, Buddy Guy, Bette Midler, Shedaisy and Jann Arden, to name a few, Ed's reliability has given him a rare look at some of the most talented artists in music history.
Ed just finished recording and mixing tracks for Sting's Symphonicities---the companion CD to accompany Sting's highly-anticipated world tour, which began June 2 in Vancouver, featuring the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, conducted by Steven Mercurio (Bocelli, Pavarotti).
Based in his studio located at The Village Studios, West Los Angeles' legendary state-of-the-art, full-service recording complex housed in a Masonic Temple, Ed is behind the board mixing music for a multitide of different projects including the Crossroads Guitar Festival, Bette Midler Live From Las Vegas 2010 DVD or music from the Sex And The City 2 film including "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered".
He garnered a statue for engineering the Grammy-winning Record of the Year, Eric Clapton's "Tears In Heaven", and he took home the coveted Grammy for Best Engineered Album award for Bonnie Raitt's Longing In Their Hearts in 1994, a year in which he, remarkably, recorded and mixed three out of the five albums nominated in that category. He has also been honored with seven TEC award nominations and three wins, as well as three Emmy nominations for his work on Bonnie Raitt's broadcast of Road Tested, The Rolling Stones Live From Madison Square Garden on HBO and Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival.
Some of the key projects Ed's worked on include Buddy Guy's Grammy-winning Blues Singer, the Grammy nominated Best Soundtrack for Hairspray, The Rolling Stones acclaimed HBO Special and live boxed set 4 Flicks, recording and mixing the Grammy-nominated soundtrack and score for the hit film A Mighty Wind, recording and mixing Eric Claptons 2007 Crossroads Guitar Festival DVD, which included Steve Winwood, Robbie Robertson, Jeff Beck and Doyle Bramhall among many others, producing The Rolling Stones' Biggest Bang. He has also recently recorded and mixed a series of iTunes exclusives for John Legend, Wolfmother, Hinder, Yellowcard, Lennie Kravitz, Evanesence and Brian Culbertson's Bringing Back The Funk for Verve Records.
