Ryan Shore is an award-winning Los Angeles-based Canadian film composer. He has a diverse background of orchestral, contemporary, jazz, electronic, and traditional music styles. This, combined with his abilities to compose memorable music across a wide range of genres and to be highly-collaborative with filmmakers, has quickly made him one of today's sought after film composers.
Shore's recent scores include Prime (Universal) starring Meryl Streep and Uma Thurman; The Girl Next Door (Anchor Bay); Harvard Man (Lions Gate) starring Adrian Grenier and Sarah Michelle Gellar; Scout's Honor starring Bill Murray and Alec Baldwin; Vulgar (Lions Gate) produced by Kevin Smith; Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer (Anchor Bay) which he recorded and conducted with the 93-piece Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra and was named Ain't It Cool News' Top 10 Scores of the Year; the comedy Lower Learning (Anchor Bay) starring Rob Corddry, Jason Biggs, Eva Longoria and Kyle Glass; and Numb starring Matthew Perry and Mary Steenburgen.
Industry veterans and press alike have taken notice of Shore's composing. Academy Award winning composer, Elmer Bernstein (To Kill A Mockingbird, The Magnificent Seven) says "Ryan Shore gives the film a special character that it would not have without the music -- a special marriage takes place such that the film will not be the same without it". And Ain't It Cool News proclaims "With each meticulously scored measure, Shore proves that film scoring remains a craft built upon the fundamentals of music composition." They are not alone. Main Titles writes "Shore has seriously got what it takes. Providing an original and thematic voice that can only lead him to something bigger, let's hope so for the future of film music.", and Darren Rhea writes "Watch out for Shore, it's only a matter of time before he becomes a huge name in the industry."
He recently scored Macedonia's official submission for the Academy Awards, Shadows, written and directed by Academy Award nominee Milcho Manchevski, which was the highest grossing theatrical release ever in it's home country! He also composed original, on-camera music for Fur (New Line), starring Nicole Kidman and Robert Downey, Jr.
Ryan had 7 films released in the Fall of 2009 and the Spring of this year, 2010 -- Cabin Fever 2; Spring Fever (Lions Gate); Stan Helsing (Anchor Bay) from the Executive Producer of Scary Movie; Offspring (Lions Gate) for Sam Raimi's distribution company; the animated film, Articles of War, which he recorded and conducted with the Skywalker Symphony Orchestra; the horror/thriller The Shrine featuring Aaron Ashmore; Home Movie (Anchor Bay); and the romantic comedy Made for Each Other (IFC) starring Bijou Phillips, Danny Masterson, Chris Masterson and Patrick Warburton.
For his score for Cadaverous, Shore received the Elmer Bernstein Scoring Award, which was personally adjudicated and presented by Bernstein himself. Shore has also received the Clive Davis Award for his score for Shadowplay, a Fangoria Magazine Chainsaw Award nomination for Jack Brooks; Monster Slayer, and a Film & TV Music Awards Best Score nomination for Numb, among numerous other industry awards and honors.
